TIDY TOWNS NEWS
Our Volunteers (29 pairs of hands) were
out in force on Sunday Afternoon in Carrick. We dispersed from the Quayside and
went with Pickers and Gloves in all directions gathering into sacks what had
been swept every direction over the winter. The enthusiasm of the group is a
fantastic momentum to work with. Staff from Lidl, The Landmark Hotel and The
Bush Hotel came out to help us. We need this very positive gesture of business
owners to encourage the volunteers. Best Afternoon Tea ever was the reward at
4.00pm in the Rowing Club. Thanks to Tony K.and Mike O'R for preparing the
facilities.
Our outdoor work is only beginning. Can
you help us? We need volunteers (with Green Fingers) to help plant up Boxes
& Boats around town. We need ideas put on Facebook of how we can Reduce,
Reuse and Recycle more in our community.
Do you have any photographs taken of your Actions in helping the environment in
the Carrick area? Do something this week and take a picture of your work. Send the photos to us for our Facebook page.
Have you taken the time to read the Adjuducators report for 2011? It is available on line. If you dont have
access yourself visit the Library and ask there to view the Report either on
computer or on paper. We achieved 299 marks out of 400 in 2011 (297 in 2010).
This year we need your help to achieve more.
Our primary schools are doing their very
best. We see their efforts and their achievements in the Green flags they have
been awarded. The adjudicator took the
task of getting to know Carrick very seriously. He/She comments on many private
buildings in the town. Is your premises mentioned? There are positive and
negative comments but all comments must be taken as aiming to progress our town
to achieving its potential.
This year our Volunteers will be
representing us in The Carrick Parade on St Patricks day. If you would like to
join us please do. We gather at Marist Primary school at 12.30. Have a great
Bank Holiday Weekend. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Keep Carrick Neat. Keep Litter
off our Street.

DO TAKE TIME TO LOOK.
Have you been down by the River lately?
Have you noticed the 2 new Exhibition Stands?
They have been commissioned by Carrick
Tidy Towns Group and are placed between the Boardwalk and Moonriver pier.
The 2 exhibits are the first in a series
of Displays representing Wildlife in our area.
We know they will prove interesting to
young and old. These 2 displays
represent the Wild Birds often seen by the river.
They have been catalogued and
photographed by our Wildlife Photographer John Foss.
Our next commissioning is of Wild
Flowers. Watch out for the sign in the
coming weeks. Check them out and learn about Nature.
This is our way of creating an awareness
of the Natural Beauty around us every day in our Environment.

the streets are alive and the visitors are coming to our lovely town. We need
all the Shops, Bars, Restaurants, Takeaways indeed EVERYONE who has Street
frontage to their premises to come out and SWEEP footpaths every morning during
this holiday season. Cigarette butts and glass bottles particularly need to be
disposed of properly. Please do what you can to help our town attain its
potential.
A BIG THANK YOU to all who are doing
their very best to make their premises
look Great. Yes, the people are commenting and the comments are POSITIVE.

Our Volunteers are Keeping up the Good
Work out and about doing "Odd Jobs". Veronica is Back from
Volunteering in Vietnam. Well done Veronica. The fence on the Leitrim road has
a couple more hours of work if anyone out there has the time, we have the
paint.
Thank You to Seamus and Michelle in THE
VENUE for the fingerfood and drinks given to our volunteers during the Big
Fence Paint, a lovely Gesture of Goodwill.
On Thursday next June 30th at THE MARKET
YARD in Carrick there will be an Environmenal Awareness Stand for everyone to
call at between 10.00am and 2.00pm. Do come along and speak to those in our
community who are working hard to make our space a better place. Our primary
school children have a lot to teach us as over the past few months as they have
done great work towards even more Green Flag awards for their schools. Well
done to you and your teachers.
Our work this week will be to enhance
the town for our visitors to The WATER MUSIC FESTIVAL. Everyone needs to come
on board with us. If its dropped... Pick it up, If its dirty ....clean it, If
it needs weeding .... weed it, If it needs painting ... paint it. If you see it
needs doing ......tell a willing volunteer.
We want your time and your energy.
On the Subject of Money and Funding...We
had A ONE DAY BUCKET Collection in May. We have NOT been collecting 'Door to
Door'. At present NOBODY is collecting money for TIDY TOWNS. (ALL TOO BUSY)

Carrick Spring Cleaned.
A staggering two hundred and thirty seven bags of rubbish were collected in a major effort involving Tidy Towns volunteers, local residents associations on both sides of the bridge, with backup from the two local authorities. In the last few weeks an all out effort has been made to have the town sparkling clean for this year's National Tidy Towns competition. Locals and volunteers came out in unprecedented numbers to help following an appeal from the local Tidy Town's committee. After the major coup of achieving a Gold Medal in last year's Entente Florale Competition all efforts will be geared towards success in the Tidy Towns Competition.
A small army of volunteers and Cortober residents cleaned that area of town, including the verges on the N4 out as far as Springfield. A large amount of dumped signage and assorted rubbish was also collected from the drains.
The general town area was also litter picked and there was a major tidy up in Liscara Estate involving the residents there and Tidy Towns volunteers.
Efforts continue on a weekly basis, with volunteers out many evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings also.
Anyone wishing to get involved with ongoing efforts should contact Finola Mc Guire at 086 3169754.
